Tourist information

Arkansas is one of the fifty states belonging to the United States of America, bordering Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana and Texas to the south, and Oklahoma to the west.

The capital is Little Rock and its territory lends itself to be divided into two large natural regions which are respectively the high lands of the west, corresponding to the region of Ouchita and the Ozark plateau, and the low lands that incorporate the flood plain of the Mississippi River and the coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Crowley's Ridge is a formation of wind sediments forming a mini mountain range with average heights of about 150 meters and extended for about twenty kilometers. In the coastal plain south of Little Rock, livestock farms are spread, especially cattle.

The high lands, which as can be deduced from the name have different characteristics mainly due to the altitude that averages around 850 meters and include Ouchita and the Ozark plateau, are mainly rich in woods and sparsely populated.

The Boston Mountains, which are hills eroded by the wind and divided into large cliffs about six hundred meters high, are the main hills located in the Ozark plateau.

As for hydrography, the Mississippi River traces the eastern border of the state and receives most of the courses that flow through Arkansas, including the Red, Ouchita, Arkansas and Saint Francis rivers. There are also several lakes, many of which are artificial.

The climate is notoriously mild for most of the year with temperatures generally not lower than 2 degrees centigrade in winter and not higher than 27 degrees centigrade in summer. The Arkansas economy focuses primarily on industry, commerce, livestock farming and mining.

What see

There are many farms scattered throughout the state that are largely dedicated to the cultivation of rice and cotton in addition to that of soy, wheat and barley.

The woods are exploited to obtain timber and there are also important mineral resources including natural gas, bromine and diamond deposits.

In Arkansas there are also important museums including the Arkansas Arts Center which is housed on the premises of a building that dates back to before the civil war and is still in excellent condition, the Arkansas Territorial Museum and the Old State House State History Museum located in Little Rock.
