The Saint of the day August 11 is Saint Clare of Assisi, a Franciscan virgin, which is celebrated as name day and other saints are celebrated on this date.

Saint Clare of Assisi

Santa Chiara was born in Assisi in 1194 into a noble family.

Still a young girl, eager to belong only to Christ, following the advice of St. Francis, her fellow citizen, she left the world to follow the ideal of evangelical life.

Saint Francis himself covered her with a rough habit, and prepared for her a small house next to the church of San Damiano, where she was joined by her sister Agnese and other generous girls from Assisi.

Thus was born the Second Franciscan Order, called the "Poor Ladies of San Damiano", later "Clarisse".

Chiara always lived in San Damiano, in absolute poverty and contemplation.

He cared for his sisters with motherly love, worked tirelessly, loved Christ with all his soul.

She died in 1253, and was canonized by Pope Alexander IV.

Her body rests in the Basilica dedicated to her in Assisi.
