St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe
Maximilian Maria Kolbe, born in Poland on January 8, 1894, joined the Order of Friars Minor Convent, still young, and was ordained a priest in Rome in 1918.
Particularly devoted to the Virgin Mary, he founded the Militia of Mary Immaculate, which spread in the homeland and in various regions of the world.
Missionary in Japan undertook to spread the Christian faith through word and press.
Returning home after several years, he continued his apostolic and Marian activity.
During the Second World War, he was deported to a concentration camp in Auschwitz, where he offered his life in exchange for that of a fellow prisoner.
He died in the hunger bunker on August 14, 1941.
He was beatified by Paul VI in 1971 and canonized on 10 October 1982 by John Paul II, with the title of martyr.
