Belfast (Northern Ireland): what to see in the capital

post-title

What to see in the capital of Northern Ireland, an itinerary between murals including the main monuments and places of interest, from the castle to the cathedral.

Tourist information

Belfast is located along the east coast at the mouth of the Lagan River, in a favorable position in the past for the development of shipyards.

The climate is temperate, with average temperatures of 18 degrees in summer and 6 degrees in winter.

The city is famous for the murals that testify to the political and religious beliefs of the population.

Shankill Road, for example, is almost entirely inhabited by Protestants and the murals mainly illustrate loyalty to the British crown, while in the Catholic neighborhood of Falls Road the favorite theme is that of united Ireland.

What see

The historic center has some valuable buildings including the Clifton House, grand opera house and the City Hall which is the Town Hall.

The Protestant cathedral of Saint Anne is beautiful, enhanced in 1920 with mosaics.

There are also places dedicated to culture including the Ulster Museum, Queen's University, Belfast College of Technology and Union Theological College.

In addition, some internationally renowned music festivals are held in Belfast.

Not far from the center is Belfast Castle, which has medieval origins but was later rebuilt in the nineteenth century, and Stormont Castle.
