post-title

Information on the Bernina Red Train, route and timetables of this train which, starting from Tirano, Italy, arrives in St. Moritz, Switzerland, crossing a fantastic alpine landscape.

Path

The route of the Bernina red train starts from Tirano, Italy, and arrives in St. Moritz, Switzerland, crossing an alpine landscape of extraordinary beauty.

The panoramic route passes from the splendid Val Poschiavo along a stretch of the Brusio helical viaduct, an admirable engineering construction, crosses the town of Brusio, runs alongside the lake of Poschiavo, reaches the village of Le prese, and then reaches Poschiavo, the main center of the valley of the same name.

It continues to the stations of Cavaglia and Alp Grüm, at 2091 meters above sea level, where the exceptional panorama of the Vad da Palü, the small Lagh da Palü and the Poschiavo valley is surprising.

The Ospizio Bernina stop, at 2310 meters above sea level, is the highest point touched by the train, it is located on the pass that connects the Poschiavo Valley with the Engadine.

After crossing the pass, the railway begins the descent, offering wonderful panoramic views of the Morteratsch glacier and the other suberbi glaciers of the Bernina massif.

It continues along the White lake and the Black lake, which belong to different basins, in fact the water of the White lake pours first into the Adda and then into the Po, before flowing into the Adriatic Sea, instead that of the black lake through the Danube reaches the Black Sea.

Proceeding there is Pontresina, a very popular destination for summer and winter holidays, here the line branches off for Samedan-Chur before reaching St. Moritz, a renowned town and holiday resort on the lake of the same name.
