post-title

What to see in Grado, one-day itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Basilica of Sant 'Eufemia and the Baptistery.

Tourist information

Renowned spa and resort, as well as a fishing port of considerable importance, Grado develops on an island between the sea and the lagoon.

With origins dating back to Roman times, when it was born as a seaport in Aquileia, the town was invaded by Huns and Lombards.

Following the destruction of Aquileia, the patriarchs settled in Grado, contributing significantly to the development of the center.

Starting in 1787, after becoming part of the Austrian domains, the city became famous as a seaside resort, later it passed to Italy in 1918.

The historic center of Grado shows a typical Venetian imprint, with the presence of narrow streets and squares.

What see

In Piazza dei Patriarchi there is the Basilica of Sant 'Eufemia which, built in the sixth century over a previous church, has a fifteenth-century bell tower with the statue of San Michele placed on top.

To the left of the basilica is the Baptistery, built in the fifth century, with an octagonal plan and mosaic floor from the sixth century.

The early Christian Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, built in the fifth century and modified in the seventeenth century, has an interior with three naves, divided by columns, where you can admire the holy water font and the wooden statue of the Madonna delle Grazie, to which the inhabitants of Grado are very devoted.

In Piazza della Vittoria it is possible to see another basilica dating back to the early Christian era, built on top of a previous Roman construction.
