post-title

Tourist information

Located at the southern end of the Gargano promontory, Manfredonia was founded in 1256 by King Manfredi, who made the inhabitants of Siponto settle there and fortified it.

The oldest part, which has an orthogonal urban layout, is surrounded by the remains of the Angevin walls.

The castle, started at the behest of Manfredi and finished by Carlo d'Angiò, is made up of a square male with four towers and a wall with towers.

What see

Inside there is the National Archaeological Museum of the Gargano, where Dauni ceramics and bronzes are preserved, which came to light following the excavations carried out at Monte Saraceno and Monte Aquilone, as well as prehistoric material, coming from the center of Coppa Nevigata, and an interesting collection of funerary steles, found in the plain of Siponto.

The Church of San Domenico, dating back to 1200, shows a Gothic portal on the facade, while inside there is the Angevin Chapel of the Maddalena, decorated with frescoes from the fourteenth century.

The Cathedral, which is the reconstruction of the ancient Cathedral destroyed by the Turks in 1620, preserves a remarkable wooden sculpture made in the thirteenth century and depicting the Madonna and Child.
