Marina di Camerota (Campania): what to see

post-title

What to see in Marina di Camerota, itinerary including cave of the cove, coastal watchtowers, prehistoric caves and calanca beach.

Tourist information

Located along the Cilento coast in the province of Salerno, immersed in the Cilento Vallo di Diano National Park and included in the Costa degli Infreschi and Masseta marine protected area, Marina di Camerota derives its name from Kamaraton, a Greek term that means construction arch, probably to highlight its characteristic of being perched on a hill.

In some of the many natural prehistoric caves in the area, finds dating back to the Stone Age have been found, including the Grotta del Pesce, the Autaro cave, the Cala cave or the prehistoric man cave.

Some caves can only be reached by sea, such as the Grotta di Santa Maria and the Grotta di Porto Infreschi.

What see

The historic center of Marina di Camerota has preserved, over time, the typical aspect of the small seaside village, characterized by narrow alleys that pass under picturesque vaults and arches, with narrow streets that allow you to continue your journey through bridges and stairways.

From 1968 in Marina di Camerota, a tourist and fishing port of moderate importance was put into operation.

Along the coast of Marina di Camerota you can see ancient watchtowers dating back to the Bourbon era, some of which have been reduced to ruins, including the Torre dell'Isola, Torre del Poggio and Torre Zancale.

Marina di Camerota includes beautiful beaches, some of which are easily accessible on foot from the historic center, such as Calanca beach, located between two rocky promontories, Marina delle Barche beach, characterized by very fine sand, Lentiscelle beach, formed by small stones and pebbles.

Leaving the historic center and heading towards Palinuro, you will find Cala del Cefalo, Cala d'Arconte and Spiaggia la Vela.
