The Saint of the day May 28 is Saint Germano of Paris, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Saint Germano of Paris
Born in Autun in France in 496 and died in Paris on May 28, 576, Germano came from a wealthy family.
After successfully completing his studies, he became a priest and was later appointed abbot in the Abbey of San Sinforiano in his hometown.
King Childeberto wanted him bishop of Paris in 555 and, in that position, in 558 he consecrated a church dedicating it to San Vincenzo di Saragozza with an adjacent convent.
Tradition attributes to Germano the Gallican rite in its first draft, widespread in various areas of Europe.
It is a rite very similar to the Ambrosian rite used in Milan, which in its form maintains a liturgical link with the rites proper to the Middle Eastern Churches, in particular that of Syria.
When he died, in 576, he was buried in the chapel of San Sinforiano, later, in 756, the body of the saint was moved to the church of
Saint Vincent, who from that moment assumed the name of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
In the seventh century, Sant’Eligio made an important contribution to making his tomb more beautiful.
Miracles are attributed to San Germano for the benefit of the poor, prisoners, victims of fires and sick people of all kinds.
