The Saint of the day November 13 is Sant’Omobono of Cremona, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Sant’Omobono of Cremona
Omobono was born in Cremona to the Tecenghi family at the beginning of the twelfth century.
He was a cloth merchant by trade, distinguishing himself for the precision he placed in carrying out his work, a talent that earned him the esteem of all those who had the opportunity to meet him.
With what he got out of his work, he provided assistance to the poor and all those who needed help, not having a charitable thought towards the afflicted and the people who lived in tribulation.
Married man, but without offspring, he initially encountered his wife's opposition to his attitude of charity, but later his kindness and patience won the collaboration of his wife who began to help him in all the works of mercy that he practiced.
Person of great faith, he was very assiduous in prayer and took part daily in the recitation of praise and Holy Mass.
On November 13, 1197 he died during the Mass celebrated in the church of Sant’Egidio in Cremona, while the Gloria was being sung.
Recognized immediately as a saint by his fellow citizens, Omobono was the only lay person, a simple merchant not belonging to the nobility, to be canonized in medieval times.
Beatified in 1199, two years after his death, he is venerated as patron of the diocese of Cremona and of the tailors.
