The Saint of 30 November is Saint Andrew the Apostle, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

Saint Andrew the Apostle

Andrew was one of the twelve apostles and those who remained constantly close to Jesus were included during the whole period from the baptism of John the Baptist to the resurrection.

Andrea was born in Bethsaida on 6 BC. but his name, like other Greek names, was probably not the original name because, in the Jewish tradition, the name Andrea appears only from the second century.

He was the apostle Peter's brother and like him the fisherman in Capernaum by trade.

The historian Eusebius of Caesarea states that Andrew preached the gospel in Asia Minor and southern Russia.

Subsequently, moving to Greece, he led the Christians of Patras, where he suffered, on November 30, 60, the martyrdom by crucifixion which reduced him to being hung with ropes upside down, with a shape that according to tradition, seemed to be a cross form of X, later called the cross of Sant'Andrea.

In 357 his remains were moved to Constantinople but the head, with the exclusion of a fragment, remained in Patras.

In 1206, during the occupation of Constantinople, the papal legate Cardinal Capuano of Amalfi transferred the relics to Italy and in 1208 the Amalfi welcomed them solemnly in the crypt of their cathedral.

When the Turks invaded Greece in 1460, Andrea's head was transferred from Patras to Rome to be kept in St. Peter's for the next five centuries, until Paul VI, in 1964, ordered the return of the relic to the Church of Patras of which Sant'Andrea became the patron.
