Psalm 149: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentPsalm 149 was probably written at the time of Nehemiah, when neighboring peoples wanted to annihilate those who had returned from exile. Begin with an invitation to sing a new song to the Lord, praising him in the assembly of the faithful gathered in the temple, with the aim of overcoming the enemy enemies of God and of the people he has chosen, showing symbolic images of punishment.

Psalm 149 complete

[1] Alleluia. Sing a new song to the Lord; his praise in the assembly of the faithful.

[2] Let Israel rejoice in its Creator, let the sons of Zion rejoice in their King.

[3] Praise his name with dances, with hymns and tympers sing hymns.

[4] The Lord loves his people, crowns the humble with victory.

[5] Let the faithful rejoice in glory, they will rise happily from their beds.

[6] The praises of God on their mouth and the two-edged sword in their hands,

[7] to carry out revenge among peoples and punish people;

[8] to bind their leaders in chains, their nobles in iron stock;

[9] to carry out the judgment already written on them: this is the glory for all his faithful. Alleluia.
