The history of the town's thermal development is closely linked to Luigi Corazza, a nineteenth-century person of Parma origin who settled on site to start drilling and building the aqueduct called Re dei Ruscelli, an original source of water supply for the spa industry and hotel in the area.

The center of Salsomaggiore includes important Art Nouveau buildings, including the Terme Berzieri and the halls of the Palazzo dei Congressi, decorated by the painter Galileo Chini.

In 1966 it was bought by the Municipality of Salsomaggiore in 1966 and transformed into the Palazzo dei Congressi, after the construction of the Auditorium Europa in 1988, a structure located behind the building.
