Located in Val Fiorentina, in the area dominated by the Pelmo-Croda da Lago mountain system, Selva di Cadore, together with the villages of Pescul and Santa Fosca, is a popular resort in the Dolomites, frequented especially in the summer and winter, thanks to the good equipment and the beautiful Dolomite landscape.

From the thirteenth to the seventeenth century the exploitation of the nearby mines of Fursil, in the territory of Colle Santa Lucia, constituted a source of wealth for the population of this valley, inhabited since ancient times.


The alpine arc, in fact, was frequented by prehistoric men, the burial of a man who lived about 7,500 years ago, who came to light during an excavation campaign in 1987, in Mondeval de Sora at 2,150 meters above sea level, is a testimony to this. in the Municipality of San Vito di Cadore.

The skeleton, known as the Man of Mondeval, with the entire funeral equipment are preserved in the Vittorino Cazzetta Museum in Selva di Cadore.

What see

In addition to the Museum, the Parish Church dedicated to San Lorenzo, which has been known since 1234, is worth a visit.


The current building, dating back to the early fifteenth century, has maintained the characteristic aspects of Gothic-Alpine architecture, despite having undergone changes and extensions over time.

Another noteworthy cult building is the Gothic style church of Santa Fosca, located in the homonymous hamlet and dating back to the fifteenth century.

On the external facade stands the fresco of San Cristoforo, while inside you can admire the splendid Baroque tabernacle, created by the artist Andrea Brustolon.
