San Egidio
Saint Egidius lived as a hermit in a monastery located in the south of France, he is revered as a saint by the Catholic Church.
The historical information regarding his life is very fragmented, according to some it seems that he was born in Athens at the beginning of the seventh century, subsequently going to Provence where he founded a monastery near Arles and was appointed abbot.
Upon learning of his holiness, the sovereign Carlo Martello asked Egidio to pray for him, so that he could obtain forgiveness for a guilt that he had never managed to confess to anyone out of shame.
The following Sunday, during the celebration of the mass, Egidio had the vision of an angel who placed a note on the altar which indicated the unconfessable sin of the sovereign, who in this way managed to be forgiven.
Egidio died, with good approximation, in 725 and the monastery, which was called Abbey of San Egidio in his memory, became the destination of numerous pilgrimages.
