What to see in Vipiteno, one-day itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Multscher Museum, the Tower of the Twelve, the Town Hall and the Parish Church.


Tourist information

Located in the province of Bolzano, from which it is 71 km away, Vipiteno is a tourist resort close to the Brenner border crossing.

In the Church of the Holy Spirit there are frescoes of the fifteenth century made by Giovanni da Brunico.


In Piazza Città, there is a relief dating back to the Roman period which depicts the Persian god Mithras while killing a bull.

In the Multscher Museum there are some remains of the parish church altar, built by Multscher, in addition, three other things, there are four very interesting painted doors made up of eight panels, with scenes from the Passion of Christ and Vida di Maria, dating back to 1458.

Via Città Nuova is characterized by buildings decorated with protrusions, battlements and elegant old signs.


At the beginning of this road rises the fifteenth-century Tower of the Twelve, rebuilt in the nineteenth century, on which stand out a clock and a sundial frescoed and marked with coats of arms.

What see

A little further on are the seventeenth-century Casa dei Principi, used to host important guests, and the monument to San Giovanni Nepomuceno, patron saint of the city.

Close to the statue of this Saint is the Town Hall, characterized by crenellated crown protrusions.


In late Gothic style and dating back to the sixteenth century, this building contains on the first floor an open courtyard embellished with reliefs and paintings, while in the Council Hall there are medieval and baroque objects.

The parish church of Santa Maria in Vibitin, whose construction dates back to the period between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, shows a remarkable bell tower beside it.

On the right side there is an ogival portal characterized by a lunette, a bas-relief from the sixteenth century and a Roman plaque.

Inside three naves with frescoed vaults, interesting statues made by Multscher are preserved.

Nearby is the civil hospital, which is a 1500 reconstruction of a building dating back to the thirteenth century.
