Telese Terme (Campania): what to see

post-title

What to see in Telese Terme, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Antiche Terme Jacobelli and Norman Tower.

Tourist information

Country in the province of Benevento, located in the middle of the Telesina Valley and to the right of the Calore Irpino river, Telese Terme is located at the foot of Monte Pugliano, from which the springs of sulphurous water used by the spas that characterize the town flow.

The origins of Telese date back to the Roman city of Telesia, which became an ally of Rome in 215 BC, whose ruins are visible, not far from the center, near San Salvatore Telesino.

The earthquake of 1349, in addition to completely destroying the country, changed the hydrogeological structure of the territory, making mineral water sources appear with sulphurous characteristics, having beneficial properties capable of curing diseases of the skin, digestive system and respiratory system .

The main bathing establishment is located in Piazza Minieri, which dates back to the 19th century and is surrounded by a park characterized by centuries-old trees.

The Ancient Terme Jacobelli, located at the intersection of Castelvenere, Solopaca and Telese, was founded in 1861 by the knight Achille Jacobelli of San Lupo.

What see

It is worth seeing the Norman bell tower, dating from the eleventh century, near which stood the ancient cathedral, of which only a few remains can be seen.

The tower is built with materials recovered from Roman Telesia, also has decorations with brick motifs.

About a kilometer from the center, following the road that leads to Solopaca, there is the Telese lake, where it is possible to practice sport fishing.

This lake is of karst origin and has a perimeter of 840 meters, with depths reaching up to 30 meters.

Not far from Telese is Montepugliano, a town characterized by the presence of sinkholes, a form of karst erosion caused by the action of sulphurous waters on carbonate rocks.
