Saint Robert of La Chaise-Dieu

Robert of La Chaise Dieu was born in Aurillac around 1000 and died in La Chaise Dieu on April 17, 1067.

Belonging to the Turlande family, it was originally from the French region of Auvergne.

After being ordained priest and canon of San Giuliano in Brioude, he was the founder of a congregation dedicated to the poor.

In reality Roberto felt within himself the desire to live a monk's life and keep in mind that it was in the eleventh century, at the time of the Cluniac reform.

Roberto passed right from Cluny, a town located in French Burgundy, before going as a pilgrim to Rome.

Upon his return, he started a hermit life in the mountains of his Auvergne.

When many comrades joined him, he decided to found the Benedictine abbey of La Chaise Dieu, of which he was the first abbot.
