San Galdino

San Galdino della Sala was born in Milan in the first decade of the century. XII, from a family belonging to the small town aristocracy, and died on April 18, 1176 in the Church of Santa Tecla after giving a sermon.

San Galdino began his ecclesiastical career and became Archbishop of Milan.


In his life he was an example of Christian charity towards the poor, in particular all those who had been imprisoned for not being able to pay their debts, in fact for this he founded what was later called "the bread of San Galdino".

In 1162 he was present at the destruction of Milan ordered by Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa and, when in 1167 the people regained possession of the city, San Galdino, as archbishop and papal legate, carried out an important anti-seismic operation in the spiritual and thunderstorm.

He was a tireless preacher, he worked for the conversion of heretics, he tried to put an end to the conflicts between clerics and ecclesiastical bodies, he worked several times to find an agreement in the stipulation of acts concerning the property and rights of the episcopate in various areas.


The Urn of San Galdino is located in the Cathedral of Milan.
