Camera shutter: how the curtain works

post-title

What a camera shutter is for, how it works and types of this fundamental device present in every analog and digital camera.

Camera shutter

This device is used to adjust the exposure time of the film to light.

The shutter is positioned between the lens and the film.

You can see it by opening the back of the camera.

The most common are the curtain shutters made up of two fabric or metal surfaces located parallel to each other along the focal plane.

These curtains, by pressing the shutter button, slide vertically more or less rapidly, depending on the shutter speed set, forming a slot that allows light to pass through.

The shutter determines a correct exposure together with the diaphragm.

Shutter speeds are manually selectable via ring or buttons and automatically according to the type of camera.
