What to see in the Central French region, attractions and places to visit in this central region of France, castles, forests, rivers and ponds.


Tourist information

The Center, also commonly known as the French Center, is divided into six departments with the capital of Orleans.

The most important cities besides Orleans are Tours and Bourges.


The climate of this region, being continental, involves cold winters characterized by not rare snowfalls, in summer the temperatures are mild.

The towns of the Central France stand out for having imposing cathedrals which, together with the Castles of the Loire, represent a remarkable testimony to the bright past.

Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral is one of the largest in France, a symbol of Gothic art dating back to the early 13th century.


Since 1979 it has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its great artistic value and its famous 176 stained glass windows.

What see

The Renaissance Chambord Castle, located in the middle of a wood, was commissioned by King Francis I who entrusted the design to Leonardo da Vinci, who also created the splendid helical staircase.

The Center region is also renowned for the production of quality cheeses, made with goat's milk, among which the Sainte-Maure, Selles-sur-Cher and Crottin di Chavignol deserve to be mentioned.


Do not forget the famous wines, among which the most renowned are Bourgueil, Chinon, Vouvray and Sancerre.

Music fans cannot miss the annual festival event held in Bourges in April with the presence of around 200 artists, including novices and already known to the general public.

The Centro region has a rich history and is famous above all for the splendid Loire Castles which attract visitors from all over the world.

There are also beautiful parks and gardens surrounded by unspoiled nature where forests, rivers, ponds and vineyards follow one another.

In Loiret there is the largest forest, that of Orleans as well as the Abbey of Saint Benoit sur Loire, a magnificent testimony of Roman art together with other important architectural works.

L'Indre et Loire is known for its prestigious castles including those of Amboise and Chenonceau.
