post-title

The Saint of the 11 January is Saint Igino Pope, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

Sant'Igino

Little information exists about the life of Saint Igino, it is known that he was probably from Athens and died during the persecution of Antonino Pio.

He was Pope for 4 years, starting from 138, a period in which he had to face the Gnostic heresy carried out by Valentino and Cedone, who wanted to make believe that normal believers only need faith, while the most cultured people need science that explain the reasons for the faith.

Being Igino also a philosopher, he managed to disavow the heretics on their own soil.

In his brief papacy, according to Liber Pontificalis, he instituted the minor Orders, putting order in the ecclesiastical hierarchy with a clearer distinction between the roles of priests, deacons and subdeacons, the latter figure established by himself.

According to tradition, it is claimed that the institution of the godfather and godmother in baptism is due to him.
