post-title

The Saint of the day June 21 is San Luigi Gonzaga, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

San Luigi Gonzaga

Born on March 19, 1568, he was trained in arms by his father, the Marquis Ferrante Gonzaga, since he was a child, to the point that at just five years he risked dying crushed by the recoil of the cannon for a shot fired by him.

Despite this education, Luigi understood that the way to go was another, a path that would lead him to God, leading a chaste life dedicated entirely to others

After receiving First Communion at the age of twelve, on the day when Bishop Carlo Borromeo was on a pastoral visit to Brescia, he later decided to enter the Society of Jesus, despite an open opposition from his father.

Finally free to have completed his choice to follow Christ, he renounced his inheritance and every noble title, entering the Roman college of the Jesuits and putting himself at the service of the poor and the sick.

During the plague epidemic that spread in Rome in 1590, Luigi did not give up carrying a dying man on his shoulder and for this reason he was seriously infected by the disease that led to his death in 1591 at the age of only 23 years.

His body was buried in Rome in the church of Sant'Agnazio in Campo Marzio.
