The Saint of the day 6 October is Saint Bruno of Cologne, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
St. Bruno of Cologne
Born in Germany, after spending a studious youth first in Cologne and then in Reims, France, San Bruno was an exemplary teacher of his students, among whom were also San Ugo da Grenoble and the future Pope Urban II.
But Bruno's main vocation was not so much the doctrine, but solitude and prayer.
Thus, when an unworthy and simony bishop, who got on the chair of Reims, removed him from teaching, he retired to Citeaux together with six faithful companions.
Here, where Roberto di Molesme laid the foundations of the Cistercian Order, he did not stop long.
In fact, in 1082, the Abbot of the Chaise-Dieu, near Grenoble, gave San Bruno and his companions a more solitary and secluded place in the Chartreuse Valley.
However Bruno could not stay long in this strip of solitude and peace because, in 1091, an ancient pupil, who became Pope Urban II, wanted him with him at the papal court.
Once realizing that this life was not for him, the Saint retired to the mountains of Calabria, where he founded his second Charterhouse in Torre, near Catanzaro.
Here he lived the last years of his earthly existence, before rising, in 1101, towards the eternal pastures.
