San Paolino di Nola
Born in 355 in Bordeaux, France, and died in Nola, a town in Campania, on 22 June 431, Paolino was bishop of Nola in the fifth century.
Having been attributed to him the use of bells to ring in the religious sphere, San Paolino da Nola is considered the patron of Neapolitan bell ringers.
Son of the prefect of the province of Aquitaine, he was sent to study law and philosophy.
Just over twenty, he was given the position of senator, in 378 he became governor of Campania, choosing Nola as his residence.
When he was traveling in Spain, he met the young Therasia in Barcelona, a very beautiful and wealthy woman but, unlike him, a baptized Christian.
Pauline married Therasia and was led by her towards a new lifestyle which led him to convert to the Christian faith.
In fact, in 389, at the Bordeaux church, Paolino was baptized by Bishop Delfino.
The death of the only son Celsus, who died in 392 only after eight days of being born, left Pauline's soul forever marked for the rest of his life, pushing him more and more towards the comfort that only faith could give him .
Together with his wife, also deeply affected by the loss of his son, he devoted himself completely to Christian asceticism, following the model of Eastern monastic life.
For this decision to distribute their goods to the poor and to retire to Catalonia, where Pauline was ordained a priest.

In Nola he dedicated himself to the construction of a sanctuary, taking care to also erect a hospice reserved for the poor, with an area used as a monastery, where he decided to retire together with Therasia and some companions.
Elected bishop of Nola in 409, he died in 431 when he was 76 years old.
