Saint Patrick
Born in Bannaventa Berniae in England in 385 and died in Saul on 17 March 461, Patrick was bishop and missionary.
At 16 he was kidnapped by Irish pirates and was sold as a slave to the king of North Dal Riada, territory included in what is now Northern Ireland.
In Ireland he learned the local language and the Celtic religion, after six years he managed to escape from the king's court to return to his family.
He became first deacon and subsequently, after he had gone to Gaul, San Germano d'Auxerre appointed him bishop.
Later he was entrusted by Pope Celestine I with the evangelization of the British Isles, especially that of Ireland.
In 431 he began his work of evangelization in Irish lands, where paganism was rampant at that time.
The spread of Christianity in Ireland is due to Saint Patrick, although it was inspired by Celtic paganism.
In fact, to keep intact the roots and historical traditions of the Irish people, Patrick did not hinder the combination of many Christian and pagan elements.
A confirmation of this behavior was the introduction of the solar cross on the Latin cross, which gave rise to the Celtic cross, which later became the symbol of local Christianity.
After being on a pilgrimage to Rome at the age of fifty, he settled in Northern Ireland where he remained until his death.
