Actress and prostitute, Pelagia was a beautiful woman, nicknamed for this reason Margherita, who lived in the third century near Antioch in Syria.
She used to cross the city center always dressed impeccably in order to make herself well known, all covered with jewels and with a large group of servants in tow.
One day the procession of Pelagia passed in front of some bishops who were sitting in front of the basilica of the Blessed Martyr Julian, they immediately looked away from her so as not to be tempted, except the blessed Grandfather, who was the oldest of the bishops present .
Grandfather looked at her for a long time and then asked his fellow bishops if they too had not been cheered by such beauty.
According to him, God would have put her in the first place, rewarding the care he had put to adorn himself in that way, so as to be perfect, exalting his body to the maximum.
Pelagia, hearing the words of the bishop, was touched deep in her heart, went to prostrate herself at her feet and was baptized.
After this event, he took off his precious clothes wearing the penitent's tunic and went on foot to Jerusalem, where he continued his existence in a modest-sized cell and with only one small window on one wall.
He was mistaken for a man, his true identity was discovered only after his death and Pelagia obtained for this a great devotion from the Christian people.
