Biography of San Domenico di Guzman

Founder of the Order of Preachers, St. Dominic of Guzman had called himself a humble minister of preaching.

He dedicated himself to the fight against heresy, and was particularly linked to the Virgin Mary, considered co-founder of his order.

The Dominican tradition has transmitted to us the experience of prayer of San Domenico through a work entitled, "The nine ways of praying of San Domenico", composed between 1260 and 1288 by a Dominican friar.

In the Vitae Fratrum by Gerard de Frachet, many episodes of their life and of San Domenico are told by the Dominican friars of the thirteenth century, who was defined by Father Enrico Domenico Lacordaire (1802-1861), tender as a mother, strong as a diamond.

Cardinal Ugolino, who became Pope Gregory IX (1227), after the saint's death reproached the Dominicans for not having given the due honors to their master and said: "I have known in him a man who followed in all the rule of the Apostles, there is no doubt that he is now associated with their glory in heaven. "

Since 1267 the relics of S. Domenico have been venerated in Bologna in the basilica dedicated to him.
