Psalm 140: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentPsalm 140 was probably written in the period of the last kings of Jerusalem. The author speaks of enemies who plot against him, spreading poison with their words, acting with deception and continually aiming for snares along his path. Despite this, the psalmist continues to trust in God and begs him to listen to his voice and defend him on the day they try to annihilate him definitively.

Psalm 140 complete

[1] To the choir master. Psalm. Di Davide.

[2] Save me, Lord, from the wicked, protect me from the violent man,

[3] from those who plot misfortunes in the heart and every day wage wars.

[4] They sharpen their tongues like snakes; Aspen poison is under their lips.

[5] Protect me, Lord, from the hands of the wicked, save me from the violent man: they plot to make me fall.

[6] The proud offer me ties and stretch ropes like a net, they lay ambushes on my path.

[7] I say to the Lord: “You are my God; listen, Lord, to the voice of my prayer ”.

[8] Lord, my God, strength of my salvation, protect my head on the day of the fight.

[9] Lord, do not satisfy the desires of the wicked, do not favor their plots.

[10] Those around me raise their heads, but the malice of their lips submerges them.
