Psalm 34: complete, commentary

CommentIn Psalm 34 the author makes his knowledge of God available to the poor and humble, saying that he will always thank and bless the Lord, he asks to be listened to with an invitation to celebrate the Lord. Telling his story he claims to have sought the Lord who has given him an answer freeing him from all fears and recommends the humble to have faith in God if they want to be radiant with joy to be transmitted.

[1] Di Davide, when he pretended to be mad in the presence of Abimelech and, driven from him, went away.

[2] I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on my mouth.


[3] I glory in the Lord, let the humble listen and rejoice.

[4] Celebrate the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together.

[5] I sought the Lord and he answered me and freed me from all fears.


[6] Look to him and you will be radiant, your faces will not be confused.

[7] This poor man cries and the Lord listens to him, frees him from all his anxieties.

[8] The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and save them.


[9] Taste and see how good the Lord is; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

[10] Fear the Lord, his saints, nothing is missing from those who fear him.

[11] The rich are impoverished and hungry, but whoever seeks the Lord lacks nothing.

[12] Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

[14] Preserve the tongue from evil, lips from lying words.

[15] Stay away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.

[16] The eyes of the Lord upon the righteous, his ears to their cry for help.

[17] The face of the Lord against evildoers, to erase their memory from the earth.


[18] They cry out and the Lord hears them, saves them from all their anguish.

[19] The Lord is near to those who have wounded hearts, he saves the broken spirits.

[20] Many are the misfortunes of the just, but the Lord frees him from all.

[21] Keep all his bones, not even one will be broken.

[22] Malice kills the wicked and those who hate the righteous will be punished.

[23] The Lord redeems the life of his servants, whoever takes refuge in him will not be condemned.
