Psalm 42: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentThe author of Psalm 42 is a deportee who finds himself in the situation of being subjected to all kinds of harassment by his jailers. The song of praise opens with a huge desire from the Lord and the question regarding the time needed to come to him, so that his face can shine. But the winners tempt him with the idols of the world who can be seen and touched, they would like him to abandon his faith. But the deportee did not listen to them, remembering the good times of joy lived in his father's house which, although painful, are essential for him.

Psalm 42 complete

[1] To the choir master. Maskil. Of Core's children.

[2] As the deer yearns for waterways, so my soul yearns for you, O God.

[3] My soul is thirsty for God, for the living God: when will I come and see the face of God?

[4] Tears are my bread day and night, while they always say to me: "Where is your God?".

[5] This I remember, and my heart melts: through the crowd I advanced among the first to the house of God, in the midst of the songs of joy of a multitude in celebration.

[6] Why are you saddened, my soul, why do you groan over me? Hope in God: I will still be able to praise him, salvation of my face and my God.

[7] My soul falls in me; therefore I remember you from the country of Jordan and Ermon, from Mount Misar.

[8] An abyss calls the abyss to the roar of your falls; all your waves and waves over me are gone.

[9] By day the Lord gives me his grace by night I raise my song for him: my prayer to the living God.

[10] I will say to God, my defense: “Why did you forget me? Why sad I go away, oppressed by the enemy? ".
