Psalm 98: complete, commentary

CommentThe composition of Psalm 98 dates back to the post-exile period, the psalmist invites a new song in honor of the Lord who has done great things, freeing Israel from the oppressors and his opponents. Through Christ we were given the salvation of God, to free us from sin, and shown the justice that made us righteous before the Father.


Psalm 98 complete

[1] Psalm. Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has performed wonders. His right hand and his holy arm gave him victory.

[2] The Lord has manifested his salvation, in the eyes of peoples he has revealed his justice.


[3] He remembered his love, his faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

[4] Acclaim to the Lord all the earth, cry out, cheer with songs of joy.

[5] Sing hymns to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and with a melodious sound;


[6] with the trumpet and the sound of the horn acclaimed before the king, the Lord.

[7] The sea and all that it encloses, the world and its inhabitants.

[8] The rivers clap their hands, the mountains rejoice together

[9] before the Lord who comes, who comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice and the peoples with righteousness.
