post-title

What to see in San Benedetto in Piscinula, ancient and small church in Rome located at the end of via Piscinula in the Trastevere district in the homonymous square.

Tourist information

This sacred building was built on the remains of the houses that belonged to the family of the Anici relatives of San Benedetto da Norcia who hosted it during the period of his Roman studies at the end of the fifth century after Christ.

It is possible to visit the small space where the Saint lived before choosing the life of a hermit, praying for the image of the Madonna placed to the left of the entrance to the Church.

This place of worship has undergone a recent restoration that involved the internal part with the cleaning of the old incrustation and consequent carry over to the ancient splendor of the medieval walls, also including some valuable frescoes.

What see

The internal architecture of the church has three naves with columns of gray granite and cipollino.

To the right of the main altar you can admire a fragment of fresco and the sepulcher of Abbot Giacomo de Pretis, above the altar a panel depicting San Benedetto, on the left some traces of frescoes by Antonio Piervenanzi.

In the small chapel there is a beautiful fresco depicting the Madonna.
