Schillingsfurst (Germany): what to see

post-title

What to see in Schillingsfurst, an itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Castle, lighthouse-shaped water tank and regional museum.

Tourist information

The residential town of Schillingsfurst is famous above all for the imposing baroque castle, built between 1723 and 1750, which belonged to the Hohenlohe princes, which stands out immediately at first sight for the 365 windows that illuminate 70 rooms, built in the same place in to which stood another mighty castle dating back to 1000.

Rich stuccoes, frescoed ceilings and tapestries, valuable furniture, precious porcelain and precious paintings make each visitor relive the history of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The work room of the imperial chancellor Clodoveo retains the original furnishings of the early 1900s.

What see

From the top of the castle you can see a beautiful panorama that ranges from the plain to the town.

Here the numerous accipitrids, which are diurnal birds of prey, trained by the Bavarian Court of hunting hawks, if the weather and the wind allow it, have the opportunity to perform their daily training with their qualified instructors in aerobatic flights.

Descending from the castle, the road leads to a large lighthouse-shaped water tank, unique in its kind for the particular pumping system operated by the driving force of oxen.

The obliquely mounted wooden revolving platform is set in motion by the trampling caused by oxen and feeds the water from the tank by means of a pump, from the tank the water flowed through wooden pipes.

Nearby there is an interesting regional museum.
