St. George's Basilica (Prague)

The elegant St. George's Basilica in Prague represents one of the greatest examples of Romanesque architecture in Bohemia.


Visit Basilica of San Giorgio

The splendid Romanesque building overlooks Jirske Namesti in front of the Cathedral apse.

With a baroque facade and two bell towers of equal size.


This church was erected at the disposal of Prince Vratislao, in the period between 915 and 921, was rebuilt several times following various destructions.

The central nave features architectural elements between the tenth and twelfth centuries.

Some traces of frescoes dating back to the thirteenth century and depicting heavenly Jerusalem are visible on the ceiling of the choir.


The vaults of the apse are decorated with frescoes that show the coronation of the Madonna.

In the crypt there is the statue of Santa Brigida, the work of Bernardo Spinetti.

The Chapel of San Giovanni Nepomuceno was added in 1700, to admire the statue of San Giorgio and the frescoes on the ceiling that show scenes from the Apotheosis of San Giovanni Nepomuceno.

In the Chapel of Santa Ludmilla there is the Sepulcher of the Saint, by Peter Parler, the frescoes present illustrate some scenes that narrate events that occurred in his life.
