What to see in Atri, an itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Duomo, the Conserva dellacqua, the Church of San Francesco and Palazzo Acquaviva.


Tourist information

Founded by the Piceni, Atri later became the first Roman fortress facing the Adriatic Sea.

Inside the Cathedral, whose construction dates back to the end of the thirteenth century, there is a square-shaped choir, decorated with a cycle of Renaissance frescoes, also it is possible to admire the remains of a remarkable floor, made in mosaic and dating back to previous Roman baths on which the church was built.


What see

Other noteworthy frescoes, dating back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, are those from an ancient baptistery.

Behind the Cathedral is the water conservatory, a medieval crypt carved from the remains of ancient Roman baths, where it is possible to admire frescoes from the fifteenth century.

It is also worth visiting the Church of San Francesco, the Acquaviva Palace, the Church of Sant'Agostino, the Church of Santa Andrea from the 1300s and the Church of San Nicola di Bari from 1256.
