post-title

What to see in Castelvetrano, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Church of Purgatory and the Fountain of the Nymph.

Tourist information

Located in the southwestern part of Sicily, Castelvetrano is a town whose origins date back to the year one thousand.

From the end of 1200 it belonged to the noble Tagliavia family.

The Church of San Giovanni was built at the end of the eighteenth century above the place where a previous sixteenth-century building stood.

Inside there is a remarkable sculpture of San Giovanni Battista, made by Antonello Gagini in 1522, as well as some paintings from the Baroque era.

What see

Piazza Garibaldi, which represents the center of the town, includes interesting monuments, including the seventeenth-century Fountain of the Nymph, the eighteenth-century Church of Purgatory, the nineteenth-century Salinus Theater, the Town Hall and the sixteenth-century Mother Church.

Nearby, 7 km away, is Campobello di Mazara, where you can visit the museum of peasant work, which preserves tools and objects dating back to the early twentieth century.

In Rocche di Cusa, there are the ancient Campobello quarries, better known as Cave di Cusa, from which the tuff used to build Selinunte was extracted.

At 3 km there is the Church of the Holy Trinity of Delia, built by the Normans in 1100, having a Greek cross plan and covering made with a small dome in the Arabic style.

In the town of Salemi, 26 km away, which recalls the proclamation with which Garibaldi was given dominion over the island, it is interesting to visit the thirteenth-century castle and the Risorgimento museum.
