post-title

What to see in Cerveteri, itinerary including the main places of interest in the necropolis, including tombs and tombs that testify to its origins dating back to the Etruscans, in addition to the Ruspoli Castle.

Tourist information

Located in Lazio in the province of Rome, Cerveteri is a very ancient city, as evidenced by the Necropolis of the Banditaccia, dating back to the Etruscan era.

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this important archaeological site is located above a tufaceous hill where there are about 400 burials, dating back to the period between the eighth and second century BC, placed on the sides of a sepulchral and arranged over 2 kilometers in length.

The location of the burial chambers imitates the urban fabric of the cities of the living, with smaller streets that branch off from the main street and paths that wind through the tombs surrounded by spontaneous vegetation.

Among the burials, the Tomba dei Rilievi stands out for the precious decorations made with polychrome stucco.

As the inscriptions testify, this burial belonged to the Matunas family, in it are kept all the furnishings, the personal belongings of the deceased hanging on the walls and the frescoes.

What see

The Ruspoli Castle, an ancient princely residence, dates back to 1500 and is one of the most beautiful period buildings in Italy.

Heart of the medieval city, the manor is dominated by the Rocca of 1200, equipped with bulwarks and towers.

The fortifications placed around the building incorporate stretches of Etruscan walls, dating back to the fourth century BC.

The Castle has an irregular rectangular plan, which follows the perimeter of the ancient city wall that surrounds the square.

The facade facing the square has a noteworthy portico on the left, which overlooks the five-arched loggia and contrasts with the portal, made with ashlar work and bearing the Ruspoli coat of arms, located on the right.
