post-title

The Saint of the day 18 December is San Graziano di Tours, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

San Graziano of Tours

Graziano, in French Gatien, was born in Rome in the third century and died in Tours in 307.

Saint Gatien, first bishop of Tours, was sent to Gaul by Pope San Fabiano shortly before 250, after the persecutions of Marcus Aurelius and Seventh Severus.

St. Graziano enthusiastically fulfilled the task entrusted to him by witnessing and announcing the gospel message with humility and fervor.

In Tour, where Graziano stopped, he converted many people to the faith and founded the first Christian community.

Despite the great hostility of the inhabitants of Tour, Graziano, a faithful witness of Jesus Christ, is believed to have lived for fifty years before dying in peace and being buried in a cemetery reserved for Christians.

In the fourth century, San Martino, third Bishop of Tour, had his relics moved to the church of San Lidorio and a chapel was built on the tomb of this saint.

Above this funeral monument was later built the Cathedral of Tour, dedicated to San Graziano from the mid-fourteenth century, commonly called "La Gatianne".

The relics of San Graziano, moved several times, in 1562 were burnt by the Huguenots together with those of other saints, but fortunately a part remained unscathed by the flames and is now kept in the Church of Our Lady of Tour, built on the tomb of San Graziano.
