San Marcellino of Ancona
Born into the noble Boccamajore family and lived in the sixth century, Marcellino was bishop of Ancona between 550 and 568, the year in which he died.
From childhood Marcellinus was educated in the Christian religion.
At the age of about twenty, with two companions, he retired to a cave, to detach himself from worldly noises and distractions.
He spent some time in this refuge, meditating on the Gospel and doing penance.
Since he ardently wished to make Jesus and his Gospel known to those who were still in the darkness, Marcellin moved to the Gauls to do evangelization work in those territories, obtaining numerous conversions.
In the second half of the sixth he was ordained bishop of Ancona.
At the time, Bishop Marcellino was considered a man full of virtue, in the smell of holiness and very zealous in working to guide his people.
In the Roman martyrologist the legend is transcribed, handed down by Pope Gregory I, according to which the bishop Marcellin saved Ancona from a fire.
Having Marcellino's cheek, he was obliged to be brought by servants.
When the city caught fire one day, it would have been destroyed if the bishop had not let himself be carried before the fire, holding the Gospel in his hands, miraculously getting the fire to go out.
