The date of birth of the prophet Elisha is not known, only the approximate date of his death, which occurred in 790 BC, is known, his story is told in some passages of the Bible.

Originally from Abelmeula, Elisha was a wealthy owner of many assets.

His name deriving from Hebrew, which has the meaning of "God my salvation", fits him perfectly, considering the mission he carried out in the people of Israel under the reign of Ioram, Iehu, Ioacaz and Ioash.

A very determined man, Elisha promptly responded to the symbolic gesture of Elijah who, by order of God, consecrated him prophet, as well as his successor.

Elisha actively participated in the political events of his people, bringing into play the charismatic effect of his prophecy, for this reason he can be considered fully the greatest prophet of the Old Testament.

In fact, in Sacred Scripture, a long series of wonders performed by him are remembered, including that with which, by spreading the mantle of Elijah, he divided the waters of the Jordan and made the water of Jericho drinkable.

He also revived the son of the Sunamita who hosted him and multiplied the loaves, making a hundred hungry people eat.

In the same way as his master Elijah did his work to help his country in difficult times, at the time of the wars against the Moabites and the Arameans.

In 790 BC he died and was buried in the surroundings of Samaria, a place where his tomb was still present at the time of St. Jerome, according to the news handed down over the centuries.
