post-title

What to see in Lecco, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Villa Manzoni, Ponte Vecchio, Civic Museum, Palazzo Belgioioso and Torre Viscontea.

Tourist information

Located on the shores of Lake Como, at the mouth of the Adda river and with the Grigne massif as a backdrop, Lecco is a lively metallurgical industrial center as well as a famous tourist center linked to the Manzonian novel of the betrothed.

The ancient Castrum Leucum became a county in the tenth century, later, after being conquered by Visconti, it tied its destiny to Milan.

In via Amendola there is villa Manzoni which, built in the eighteenth century, was owned by the Manzoni family until 1820.

In it are preserved various documents and works by Alessandro Manzoni, who established his home here for a long period, setting his famous novel in the area.

What see

On the first floor there is the municipal art gallery, which preserves interesting pictorial works from 1600 onwards.

At the end of via Amendola is the Ponte Vecchio, built on commission by Azzone Visconti between 1336 and 1338.

The civic museum is housed in the eighteenth-century palazzo Belgioioso in Corso Matteotti, where archaeological and naturalistic finds are preserved, as well as a picture gallery and a section focused on fishing.

Industrial villa tools are displayed in the garden of the villa.

In via XX Settembre, the museum of the Risorgimento and the Resistance is housed in the fifteenth-century tower which was part of the Visconti castle, known as the Visconti Tower.
