Santa Luisa de Marillac

Born in Paris on August 12, 1591 and died in the same city on March 15, 1660, Luisa de Marillac is known primarily for being the founder of the religious order "Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul".

Despite coming from a wealthy family, she had the opportunity to experience human suffering in her own life, through the deprivation of her dearest affections from childhood, which caused her considerable family difficulties.

The difficult situation in which she found herself helped prepare her for the mission that God had prepared for her.

In fact Luisa, having personally known the suffering, was able to be close to all those who lived in anguish and pain.

Being at the service of the poor was the main purpose of his life.

By practicing charity, she found a greater force that allowed her to overcome the weakness caused by her precarious health.

Referring to Luisa de Marillac, the biographer Redier wrote: "Luisa, fragile body, ardent soul, restless spirit but vigorous ingenuity, powerful and extraordinarily determined will.".

When Luisa died in 1660, Vincenzo, who had founded Daughters of Charity with her, said.
“Here is the picture you must contemplate: picture of humility, of sweetness, of patience in infirmities. Try to shape your life on that of Luisa de ’Marillac".

As a mystic of the Holy Spirit, Luisa lived this passion through her charitable action.

Proclaimed Saint by Pope Pius XI in 1934, on 10 February 1960 Pope John XXIII proclaimed her patron saint of all those who dedicate themselves to Christian social works.
