post-title

What to see in Massaciuccoli, itinerary including the Roman villa and the walking route in the marsh areas, ideal for observing rare birds using the appropriate huts.

Tourist information

The town of Massaciuccoli, located in the municipality of Massarosa in the province of Lucca in Tuscany, surrounded by olive trees and overlooking the lake of the same name, offers a fascinating natural environment and interesting evidence of human presence dating back to the Etruscan and Roman periods.

The area extends on the eastern shore of the lake, in front of Torre del lago, whose name is linked to that of the great composer Giacomo Puccini, who lived and composed many of his famous opera works here.

What see

Going down the hill towards the lake, we find the remains of an imperial Roman villa.

Further down, along the road, the remains of a post station are visible.

Once you reach the lake, the remnant of a large lagoon formed between the Arno and the Serchio river over 5000 years ago, you can enter the oasis park through wooden walkways.

Through the special observation points, consisting of some huts, made of wood and reeds and placed along the way, it is possible to observe the surrounding marsh areas, to see up close the rare species of birds that are used to nest here.
