Eusebius and Dione Cassio narrate that you have times of the emperor Diocletian, Flavia Domitilla was harshly persecuted.

Eusebio says that Flavia, nephew of the Roman consul Flavio Clemente, was deported to Ponza where she suffered a long martyrdom as she did not want to deny her faith in Christ.

Dione Cassio instead claims that this woman was, instead of her granddaughter, married to Flavio Clemente and that she was killed because of her Christian faith.

This thesis would be confirmed by an inscription present in the basilica of the Santissimi Nereo and Achilleo, where it is said that Flavia Domitilla was the granddaughter of Vespasiano, Domiziano's father, and that he married to Flavio Clemente.
