Definition

Most of the western definitions of the Middle East consider this geographical region as the set of nations located in Southwest Asia, including the coastal states of the Mediterranean Sea including Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Cyprus, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

List of states

Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Yemen are also part of this area.


The North African nations, which do not have Asian connections, such as Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco, are increasingly defined as North African.
