Psalm 94: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentIn Psalm 94 the author invokes God to do justice to the detriment of the proud, giving them what they deserve. Written before the invasions carried out by the Assyrians and Babylonians, in the period in which the corruption of the monarchy overwhelmed the people, the fact that there was also a certain resistance to corruption was highlighted. Every Christian knows that justice came through the work of Christ and the proud, while continuing to sin, cannot put any brake on the Church of God, because it will never stop evangelizing the people.

Psalm 94 complete

[1] God doing justice, O Lord, God doing justice: show yourself!

[2] Stand up, judge of the earth, reward the proud.

[3] How long will the wicked, Lord, until the wicked triumph?

[4] Will they shoot, say insolence, will all criminals boast?

[5] Lord, trample on your people, oppress your inheritance.

[6] They kill the widow and the stranger, kill the orphans.

[7] They say: "The Lord does not see, the God of Jacob does not care."

[8] Do you understand, foolish among the people, fools, when you become wise?

[9] Who formed the ear, perhaps does not hear? Who has shaped the eye, perhaps does not look?

[10] Whoever rules peoples does not chastise, he who teaches man knowledge?

[11] The Lord knows man's thoughts: they are only a breath.

[12] Blessed is the man whom you instruct, Lord, and whom you teach in your law,

[13] to give him rest on days of misfortune, until the pit is dug to the wicked.

[14] Because the Lord does not reject his people, his inheritance cannot abandon them,

[15] but the judgment will turn to justice, all the upright in heart will follow it.

[16] Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stay with me against the evildoers?

[17] If the Lord were not my help, in short I would live in the realm of silence.

[18] When I said, "My foot is wavering," your grace, Lord, supported me.

[19] When I was overwhelmed with anguish, your comfort consoled me.

[20] Can an unjust tribunal who harass the law be your ally?

[21] They rush against the life of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.

[22] But the Lord is my defense, the rock of my refuge is my God;

[23] he will return their malice against them, for their perfidy he will make them perish, the Lord our God will make them perish.
