Tourist information

Virginia, which is part of the state of the United States of America, takes its name from the Virgin Queen who was the nickname with which Queen Elizabeth II of England was also known.

The neighboring states are West Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, while Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean lie to the east.


Virginia is considered to be the Mother of Presidents, having given birth to several of them including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Woodrow Wilson, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler and Zachary Taylor.

Virginia can be divided into six regions characterized by a certain degree of homogeneity.

What see

The Appalachian Mountains are located between the Appalachian Plateau, the Allegheny Plateau and the Blue Ridge Mountains.


The Shenandoah Valley is located within the previous one and has geographical and cultural characteristics that allow it to be considered almost an independent region.

Blue Ridge Mountains is located between the Appalachian Mountains region and the Piedmont region.

Pre-mountain hillside is located between Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountains, encompassing the counties of Madison, Green, Albemarle and Nelson.


It has a particular microclimate being incorporated between Carters Mountain and the James River.

Piedmont is located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Tidewater region.

Tidewater, which has the literal meaning of tidal water, includes the entire Atlantic coastal area and Hampton Roads which constitutes the first port area coming from the north.
