post-title

What to see in Bremen, one-day itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Statue of Roland, Town Hall, Cathedral and Market Square.

Tourist information

Located about 60 km from the mouth of the River Weser, from which it flows, and from the port of Bremerhaven, with which it forms the Land of Bremen, the smallest of the federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bremen was founded in 787 by Charlemagne .

In the Middle Ages it reached a considerable economic importance, acquired the autonomy of the city and was part of the Hanseatic League.

In 1646, after the war against Sweden, which took place during the Thirty Years War, Bremen obtained the status of a free city, while in the eighteenth century it was the first city in Europe to have commercial relations with North America.

During the Second World War, the city and the port, which today became the second most important maritime commercial port in the country, were seriously damaged by bombing, which fortunately spared the monumental center around the market and the cathedral.

What see

The most famous monuments of Bremen are the Town Hall and the Statue of Roland, in the market square.

The Town Hall, built in the Gothic style in the early fifteenth century, was renovated in the style called "Renaissance of the Weser" in the early seventeenth century.

In the twentieth century, a new wing was added to the old building, called the New Town Hall.

These monuments are a symbol of civic autonomy and market freedom, achieved during the Holy Roman Empire.

Outside the town hall is the famous Bremen Town Musicians Statue, inspired by the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm, made up of a donkey, dog, cat and rooster.

In the historic center, the Strada dei Bottai represents one of the main attractions of the city.
