Etna (Sicily): what to see at the volcano park

post-title

What to see at the Etna park, itinerary including the main places of interest and the most interesting excursions, first of all the one to the Valle del Bove.

Tourist information

Etna is a volcano located near the Sicilian city of Catania in Italy.

Being over three thousand meters high, it represents the highest volcano in Europe as well as being among the most active in the world.

The activity of Etna, being characterized by frequent eruptions, causes this volcano to generate continuous changes in the surrounding landscape with overlapping of the new lava flows to the previous ones or enlargement of the areas covered by lava.

What see

The Valle del Bove is a typical example of the destructive force of some eruptions which in this case have created a large-diameter depression with consequent spillage of other lava flows into it.

The landscape of Etna is very varied, passing from expanses of dark and inhospitable lava, to anthracite-colored lava rivers that cross green meadows or thick woods.

During 1900 it was affected by over one hundred eruptions characterized by very fluid incandescent lava flows that often touched some inhabited centers.

Catania, the provincial capital of the Sicily region and second city by population after Palermo, is located on the east coast washed by the Ionian Sea halfway between the cities of Messina and Syracuse.
